Middlesex Competitions

Middlesex Cup   |   Middlesex Bowl   |   Middlesex Vase   |   North West Cup

The bad weather has played havoc with the scheduling of Vase matches, and because of rearraged league fixtures fro 4th February, the 1st round Vase matches scheduled for this Saturday will be delayed until 17th March.

The only outstanding preliminary round match is between Harlequin Amateurs and Old Abbotstonians. The match will be played this weekend, with the winners playing away at Old Millhillians.

Playing the final as scheduled on 17th April means playing on Easter Saturday. The other option is to play the semi finals on 21st April and the final on 28th April or 5th May.

Most Clubs probably don't want to play over Easter. The question is whether you wish to play the semi final on 21st April and the final one week later or give it two weeks to 5th May. Clubs should please make their views known to Andrew Smart.

Kilburn Cosmos might be on tour on 28th and so if they reach the final we will have to play on 5th May.

The other option would be to play mid week under lights at Harrow

There is also an issue with Harrow who are in the semi final of the National Junior Vase (London Division) which they play on Saturday. This will put them two league matches behind everybody else and to be honest I can't see how they can fulfil their fixtures in this competition. A decision will be made about Harrow after the weekend.

Competition Rules

The Federation Vase is a knock-out competition open to all county clubs not eligible for the Middlesex Bowl, in Herts/Middx 1 and below, including club 1st XVs playing in the Middlesex or Herts/Middx Merit Tables. There is no seeding.

The competition is played to Middlesex Cup rules with one exception; players do not have to be league registered, just bona fide club members.

The home team is responsible for arranging the referee. Teams may enter squads of up to 21but must five players capable of playing in the front row.

In the event of a draw, extra time will be played, 10 minutes each way. If the match is still all square, the number of tries will be taken into account, and  if still equal then converted tries. If still equal then the away team progresses through the next round.
