Teddington RFC justifiably proud of a fine season
The huge sigh of relief was heard as far away as Battersea Park late on Saturday afternoon. The 1st XV managed to overcome the heat and long journey to Reigate to run out fairly comfortable winners against Reigate RFC, at the same time London Media were keeping their half of the deal in beating Old Cranleighans 10-6. So with our superior points difference over Cranleighans we finished second in the league and guaranteed our promotion to Surrey 2. Well done to all of the players on Saturday and to everyone whose pulled on a 1st XV shirt this season.
At the same time there was a festival of open rugby taking place at Bushy Park with the 2nd XV challenging the 3rd XV to a game. In a keenly contested affair the 2’s ran out the winners with impressive try scoring performances by some of our up and coming colts players.
1st XV(28)v(14)REIGATE RFC (Away) Surrey league game.

So a brief review as the season draws to an end: The 1st XV gained promotion for the 2nd season in succession and reached the clubs first ever cup final, gallantly losing to Chiswick RFC in the final of the Middlesex Bowl.A big thankyou to Jamie McKAY and of course Spencer CASEY for his coaching and inspiring team talks and to Aileen KILSHAW for keeping us patched up and repaired.
The 2nd XV were crowned league champions jointly with Kingston 2’s in the Surrey Conference league 2. A magnificent achievment by Pat PATRICK Dave PRENTICE and all of the 2’s squad.
The 3rd XV will have played 27 games at the end of the season which is a club record in itself. And in their first ever season of league rugby finished a creditable 6th, comfortably in the top half of the table. Well done to Vince RYLE and Nigel ANTON and their tightly knit squad of 3’s players.
The ladies had a fairly steady season playing 12 games and winning 7. Cheryl COULBY (Captain) and Sarah EDWARDS were selected for Middlesex Ladies. So hopefully with a bit of a concerted recruitment drive overthe summer the ladies can go on and push for promotion next season.
The Colts continued in their impressive development and won the Herts and Middlesex Colts 1st Division, which follows on from their league championship winning season last year. I for one am really looking forward to welcoming many more of our Colts players into the senior squad in the coming seasons.
A mention must of course go to Ross SWANSON who gained a first cap for England at U18 level and scored 3 tries on his debut against Portugal in the IRB Tornament in Biaritz.
And of course the Minis won the Barry Bowden Bowl at the Middlesex A festival as the most successful club at the festival, contesting an amazing 5 of the 6 age group finals, winning 2 and sharing 2. A week after they repeated the outcome, winning the Derek Mann shield at the Middlesex B festival as the most successful club on the day. This feat has never been achieved before, so congratulations to the Minis.
