What a weekend of Rugby
Posted by David Campese Guys, I would( like)to start by saying thank you for your comments. I have enjoyed being proved wrong as it showed that the level of Rugby in this years world cup has been exceptional. Let(s) start with England.
The better team won. Yes i admit it, the better team won. England turned up and dominated up front. We were poor. Englands games against Samoa and Tonga and to an extent South Africa helped majorly as they knew what to do in the heat of battle. We had not got a clue. We were outplayed, out muscled and out thought. We started to play as indivduals and that is a sign of panic. There’s not much else to say. Congratulations England. Good luck against the French. ( Did u understand that through gritted teeth?)
New Zealand…...oh dear oh dear. The draw has not helped them. They had not been tested and were not prepared. Simple as that. I also feel for them as the standard of refereeing was disgusting. I have been going on about this since day one and it just gets worse and worse. The pass was so clearly forward which lead to the winning try. Fine you might say you can’t use that as an excuse. I’m not and i don;t think the kiwis will either but in my opinion, this is the World Cup. A palce where we see the World’s best players. We should also see the best referees but sadly its not the case. It may only be one decision, but one decision can have a huge effect. It has cost a team the world cup and also has cost a man his job. Refs see what they want, or definitely did so this weekend. I only hope it improves for the semis.
It should also be mentioned that all the Refs for the 1/4’s were Northern Hemisphere. On a weekend when the guys on the pitch got it so right in producing breathtaking rugby, the IRB off the pitch got it so wrong.
My final words go to Argentina and their fan base on here. Guys congratulations. I know i was critical before about your side and the way they played but you and they proved me wrong. I was critical simply because i didn’t know much about them as you don’t often get to see them play.
However they deserve their semi final spot and i think could beat South Africa. They play with such pride and passion that the national anthem alone is a joy to watch. Against Scotland they lost their way a bit during the second half but ground out the win. Pichot is a great leader and plays with pride and in Hernandez, you have one of the best players in world. Good Luck to you.
