Mixed results in the second leg of the London N & S competition
Mixed Results for Middlesex Senior Ladies
Sunday 21st October 2007 saw the senior Ladies squad travel to Stanford-le-Hope, Essex for the second leg of the London North and South counties championship.
The first game the ladies faced a strong Kent side. From the kick-off, Middlesex were firmly on the defense. Kent made good use of their aggression in the forward pack, combined with speed out wide to control the game, and by half time Middlesex were facing a 10 point deficit.
The half-time team talk caused the ladies to raise their game to a higher level, and they returned to the pitch a more determined squad. Middlesex were stronger at the breakdown, and were looking to exploit the gaps in the Kentish defensive line. Quick reactions from scrum-half, Adi Jidji, saw her break through the fringes of a ruck to touch down.
Kent rallied immediately, and despite some desperate defending from Zoe Deeks, who left the field with a broken wrist, scored once again. Middlesex once again spurred themselves forward, and were firmly in control of the latter stages of the game. The final try was scored by Cheryl Colby, converted by Linda Merritt. Final Score: Kent 17 – Middlesex 12.
The second game was played between Middlesex and Essex. This was a game very much controlled by the Middlesex forwards, who made good use of the scrum to dominate.
Some good continuity resulted in four tries being scored all out wide, from ball won by the forwards and moved down the back line. Try scorers were Linda Merritt, Laura Morton, Chevonne Rennison and Anna Jones. Final Score: Middlesex 20 – Essex 0.
The final leg of the competition will be hosted by Middlesex on Sunday 18th November 2007 at Civil Service RFU. The ladies would be glad of your support, and hope to see you on the sidelines for a 2pm Kick-off
