ENGLAND 50TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR 2008

To Whom It May Concern,
As Tour Director of Dartmouth Rugby, I am contacting you in hopes of scheduling a fixture with your club this March.
Our tour this year, which will take place from March 13 through March 24, marks the 50th anniversary of our 1958 tour, upon which Dartmouth became the first American side to play in England, playing against the likes of London Wasps and London-Scottish/Richmond. Since that historic tour Dartmouth has returned to the UK on eight other occasions.

Other recent tours have found us in Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Cape Town, Cardiff, Dublin, and Rome competing against and training alongside some of the world’s most illustrious rugby clubs. Touring is one of the many reasons why Dartmouth excels in the US collegiate ranks and has established itself as one of the premier collegiate programs in the United States. We have won seven of the last ten Ivy League Championships, continuing a long tradition of besting rivals Harvard, Princeton, and Yale.

After finishing a successful New England fall season, losing in the final of the Northeast Championship to league rival Army (US Military Academy), we have qualified for the U.S. National tournament once again and will be traveling to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in April to compete for the national title.

Additionally, we have the Ivy League Championship tournament this spring. We are currently ranked 9th and 16th nationally according to media rugby polls. The American university rugby landscape remains a level below that of the UK. So, in order to prepare for our upcoming challenges, we are seeking strong competition and development opportunities from established clubs in England.

Such matches against experienced players and coaches will provide us with an invaluable learning experience, which we hope to transfer to further success on our home turf.

At this point, Head Coach Alexander Magleby and myself are open to any suggestions as to matches that might benefit both the opposition and Dartmouth. Our players range in age from 18 to 22 years. As a barometer, recent tour matches have been against the likes of Stellenbosch University u-19s (South Africa), San Isidro Club u-21s (Argentina), and the Uruguay u-19 National Team (Uruguay). Please let me know what additional information I can provide in the hopes of finalizing a fixture with your side on a limited notice. I would like to thank you in advance for your advice, time, and efforts in helping us put together a memorable tour to England.

Sincerely,
Riley End
Tour Director
