Middlesex County clubs Season 2007 – 2008

County clubs broke even this season with two wins (Hertfordshire and United Banks) and two losses (Hertfordshire and Combined London Old Boys).

The team was led Jonathan O’Connor, Captain (Finchley RFC) and Duncan Campbell (Vice captain).

We had Man of the match performances from Martin Wareing (Old Abbottstonians RFC) V Hertfordshire, Stuart Parkin (Old Abbotstonians RFC) V Hertfordshire (return fixture), Tommy Middleton (Hendon RFC) v United Banks and Phil Astbury (Twickenham RFC) v CLOB. Top try scorer with 5 tries in 2 games was Luke Mitchell (Finchley RFC).

The Clubs represented were Finchley, Hendon, Mill Hill, Datchworth (formerly Mill Hill and Grammarians), Twickenham, Old Abbottstonians, Civil Service and Harrow.

My overall assessment is that there are a good number of players out there who seem to rise to the occasion of playing for County clubs. I am also sure that they return to their clubs as better players for the experience. Player feed back was excellent, the spirit in the camp was always fantastic and most players have already committed to play next season.

Most of all we had invaluable support from Sue Goodenough and Bill Johnston.
